A Meta Business Partner is a company that Meta has admitted to its partner program for businesses that build products or provide services on Meta’s platforms. For WhatsApp, Meta’s developer documentation ties the status to its partner types: Solution Partners are Meta Business Partners, and Tech Partners are Meta Business Partners or eligible to become one. Being one tells you a platform works through Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform and has met Meta’s partner requirements. It does not tell you who owns your account, who bills you, or how good the software is.
That last point is why the badge is a starting filter, not the whole decision. This guide explains Meta’s partner types in plain words, what the status means for you as a customer, the questions to ask any WhatsApp platform, and how MonoChat works as an official Meta Business Partner.
What is the Meta Business Partner program?
Meta runs a partner program for companies that help other businesses use its products, from advertising and commerce to business messaging. Partners join by applying to the program, and for WhatsApp they apply for the WhatsApp specialty as part of that process. Meta lists partners in its directories so businesses can find help.
On WhatsApp, Meta separates partners into types based on how they serve clients. Meta’s own WhatsApp page describes the ecosystem this way: Tech Partners are developers who build value-added solutions on top of the WhatsApp Business Platform, while Solution Partners offer end-to-end solutions for businesses, including integration services and customer support.
WhatsApp partner types: Solution Partner, Tech Partner, Tech Provider
Meta’s developer documentation defines three types. The biggest practical difference is billing.
| Type | Meta Business Partner? | Who pays Meta for messages | Typical setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solution Partner | Yes | The partner has a credit line with Meta and invoices clients | End-to-end service; clients do not add a payment method in Meta |
| Tech Partner | Yes, or eligible to become one | You, with your own payment method; Meta bills you | Software on top of the platform; the partner bills for its own product |
| Tech Provider | No | You, with your own payment method; Meta bills you | Software on top of the platform; cannot join Meta’s partner accelerator program without upgrading |
| Unofficial tool | No | Not applicable | Automates the consumer or Business app outside Meta’s platform; puts the number at risk |
A few details worth knowing:
- Everyone starts as a Tech Provider. Meta requires third-party developers to onboard as a Tech Provider before upgrading to Tech Partner.
- The upgrade has a bar. Meta’s documentation lists conditions such as a minimum number of active clients, minimum messaging or calling volume, and a high phone number quality rating, plus applying to the Meta Business Partners program for the WhatsApp specialty.
- Partners can combine. In Meta’s Multi-Partner Solutions, a Tech Provider and a Solution Partner jointly manage a client’s WhatsApp assets, and the client uses the Solution Partner’s credit line.
You will often see the older label BSP (Business Solution Provider) used across the industry for partners that provide access and billing. When a vendor uses that term, ask which of Meta’s current types they are and who bills you.
What Meta Business Partner status tells you, and what it doesn’t
It tells you:
- The company connects WhatsApp through Meta’s official business platform rather than automating the consumer app.
- It has gone through Meta’s partner process and met Meta’s requirements for its partner type.
- It can use partner-level onboarding tools such as Embedded Signup, which creates your WhatsApp assets in a guided flow.
It doesn’t tell you:
- Whether the software fits your team: inbox, routing, automation, AI and reporting vary widely.
- Who owns your WhatsApp Business account and phone number.
- Whether you pay Meta directly or pay the platform, and whether a markup is added to Meta’s fees.
- How easy it is to leave.
- What support looks like when something breaks.
Treat the badge as a requirement for anything that touches your WhatsApp number, then evaluate the rest like any other software purchase.
Why it matters which kind of partner you choose
Account ownership
Meta’s Embedded Signup documentation states that business customers onboarded through it own all of their WhatsApp assets and keep full access to WhatsApp Manager, which the partner cannot restrict. That is what you want: your WhatsApp Business account, phone number and templates in your own business portfolio. If a vendor creates assets in its own portfolio for you, ask how you would take them with you.
Billing and markup
With a Solution Partner, Meta’s message fees reach you through the partner’s invoice. With a Tech Partner or Tech Provider, Meta bills you directly and the platform bills only for its software. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you are getting and whether Meta’s per-message rates are passed through unchanged. Our WhatsApp API pricing guide shows what those rates are.
Limits and verification
Meta’s messaging limits rise when your business is verified, and Meta notes that a partner who onboarded you can verify the business for you. A good partner helps you through Meta business verification, display name approval and your first templates instead of leaving you to work it out.
Switching later
Businesses do change platforms. Ask how moving your WhatsApp number to a new provider would work, and what happens to templates and history if you leave.
Risk of unofficial tools
Tools that automate the consumer app or the WhatsApp Business app outside Meta’s platform break WhatsApp’s terms. Numbers used this way can be restricted or banned, and there is no partner behind them to help. See why WhatsApp Business accounts get banned.
Questions to ask before you choose a WhatsApp platform
Use this list in every sales call:
- Are you an official Meta Business Partner, and which WhatsApp partner type are you?
- Will the WhatsApp Business account and phone number sit in my business portfolio?
- Who bills me for Meta’s message fees, and do you add a markup?
- Can I keep my current number? Do you support WhatsApp coexistence with the Business app?
- Will you help with business verification, display name and template approval?
- Which channels besides WhatsApp can my team handle in the same inbox?
- What automation and AI features are included, and how are AI costs charged?
- How do I export my data and move my number if I leave?
- What does support look like during setup and after go-live?
Write the answers down. Two vendors with the same badge can give very different answers to questions 2, 3 and 8.
How MonoChat works as an official Meta Business Partner
MonoChat is an official Meta Business Partner and business messaging software. Here is what that means in practice, based on how MonoChat connects channels:
- Your own account, directly on Meta’s Cloud API. MonoChat connects your own WhatsApp Business account directly to Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API). The account and number stay yours. Our guide on how to get the WhatsApp Business API walks through the setup.
- Meta bills you directly, with no markup. Meta charges its message fees to you according to its pricing, and MonoChat does not apply markup on channel provider fees. MonoChat’s own plans are on the pricing page, starting with a free Basic plan (one agent, one channel).
- Guided onboarding. MonoChat guides you through connecting your business account, setting up the number and creating templates. Onboarding time depends on your Meta account status and business verification.
- Keep your Business app number. With Coexistence, you can onboard your existing WhatsApp Business app number to the API without changing it, where Meta makes it available for your account and region.
- Official APIs for the other Meta channels too. Instagram and Messenger connect through Meta’s official APIs, and MonoChat is also a TikTok Business Partner, so these channels share one team inbox. Details are on the security page and the about page.
Once connected, your team works from one inbox with routing and assignment, AI assistants, workflow automation, template campaigns and analytics.
One clarification: MonoChat also runs its own partner program for agencies, consultants and integrators who refer customers. That is a separate MonoChat program and has nothing to do with Meta’s partner types. If you are an agency, see our WhatsApp partner program guide.
