A Black Friday WhatsApp campaign works when three things are ready before the sale starts: an opted-in audience, approved marketing templates, and a team or automation that answers replies within minutes. For Black Friday on November 27, 2026 and Cyber Monday on November 30, 2026, plan to submit templates and run warm-up sends in early November, send an early-access message before the sale, a launch message on the day, and one reminder, then switch to order updates.
The risk on WhatsApp is not that people ignore you. It is that they block or report you, which pauses templates and lowers your limits during the one week you can least afford it. This guide gives you a timeline, template examples, the Meta rules that matter for big sends (including the US restriction), cost examples and a checklist for avoiding blocks.
Why WhatsApp works for Black Friday
Email inboxes overflow in late November. WhatsApp messages arrive in the same app people use to talk to friends and family, which is why they get read, and why they also get blocked when they feel like spam.
WhatsApp is strongest for holiday campaigns in three ways:
- Early access for your best customers. A short, personal message to people who bought from you before often outperforms a big public announcement.
- Two-way sales. Shoppers reply with “Do you have this in blue?” or “Will it arrive before the 20th?” and you can answer and close the sale in the chat.
- After-purchase updates. Order confirmations and shipping updates on WhatsApp cut “where is my order” questions when volumes peak. See WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery and order updates for that side of the plan.
The Meta rules that matter for holiday sends
Before you plan volumes, understand the limits Meta applies to every business on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Opt-in and opt-out
You may only message people who gave you their number and agreed to receive messages from your business, and you must honor every request to stop. A holiday sale is not a reason to message an old list that never agreed to marketing. Our WhatsApp opt-in guide has wording you can reuse.
Approved marketing templates
Any message you start outside the 24-hour customer service window must use an approved template. Promotions, discount codes and product announcements are marketing templates. Submit them well before the sale so a slow review or a rejection does not block your launch.
Messaging limits
Meta caps how many unique people you can message outside a customer service window in a rolling 24 hours. Limits are set per business portfolio and shared by all your numbers. New portfolios start at 250 recipients, and the limit can rise to 2,000, 10,000, 100,000 or unlimited. Verifying your business, or reaching 2,000 unique recipients within 30 days with high-quality templates, raises it, and after that it scales automatically when quality stays high and you use at least half your limit. If you plan to reach 30,000 people on Black Friday, check your current limit now, not on November 26.
Template pacing
New templates, unpaused templates and marketing templates without a green quality rating can be paced. WhatsApp sends to a first group, holds the rest while it gathers feedback, then releases them if the feedback is good. If feedback is negative, the held messages are dropped and the template is paused. Meta says it limits how long the evaluation takes, so even its highest-throughput campaigns are delivered within an hour in nearly all cases, but pacing is another reason to launch your Black Friday template a few days early with a smaller segment.
Per-user marketing limits
WhatsApp may limit how many marketing templates a person receives from all businesses, based on how they engage. A blocked delivery fails with error code 131049. Meta asks you to wait at least 24 hours before resending to that person, and repeated retries can get further attempts blocked for up to a day. These limits do not apply to business numbers or users in the EEA, the UK, Japan or South Korea.
No marketing templates to US numbers
Meta’s documentation states that WhatsApp does not currently deliver marketing template messages to users with United States phone numbers. If a large part of your audience is in the US, plan Black Friday promotions there on other channels, and use WhatsApp for conversations customers start, replies inside the service window and utility messages such as order and shipping updates.
A Black Friday WhatsApp timeline for 2026
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Early to mid October | Add opt-in to checkout, signup forms and in-store; start an early-access waitlist |
| Late October | Write and submit marketing and utility templates; test checkout links and payment |
| Early November | Run one or two smaller campaigns to warm up your limit and build template quality |
| November 18 to 20 | Send the early-access or “sale is coming” message to your most engaged segment |
| November 27 (Black Friday) | Launch message to opted-in segments; staff the inbox for replies |
| November 28 to 29 | Order updates; no extra promotions to people who already bought |
| November 30 (Cyber Monday) | One reminder to people who opened but did not buy |
| December | Shipping cut-off notice, gift ideas for engaged customers, then a pause until January |
Keep the total number of marketing sends per person low. Three well-timed messages across the whole season are usually better than daily blasts.
Black Friday WhatsApp template examples
Each example names the business, gives one clear action and offers a way to stop. Variables appear as {{1}}.

Keep promotional content out of utility templates. Adding a discount code to an order confirmation makes it a marketing template. For more patterns, see our WhatsApp template message examples.
How much does a Black Friday WhatsApp campaign cost?
Meta charges per delivered message by category and recipient country. These examples use the October 2026 rates from MonoChat’s bulk messaging calculator, at the base tier, in USD:
| Campaign | Volume | Rate per message | Meta fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch message to UK customers (marketing) | 20,000 | $0.0635 | $1,270 |
| Launch message to German customers (marketing) | 20,000 | $0.1365 | $2,730 |
| Launch message to Brazilian customers (marketing) | 20,000 | $0.0625 | $1,250 |
| Launch message to Indian customers (marketing) | 30,000 | $0.0118 | $354 |
| Order confirmations to UK customers (utility) | 15,000 | $0.0220 | $330 |
Two more points for your budget:
- Replies cost money too. Since October 1, 2026, Meta charges per message for service replies inside the 24-hour window, at the market’s utility rate. There is no free monthly allowance, so budget for the conversations your campaign starts.
- Segmenting saves money. A message that goes only to people likely to buy costs less and gets fewer blocks. Sending to everyone is the expensive option on both counts.
Our WhatsApp API pricing guide explains the full rate card.
How to avoid blocks and template pauses
Holiday sends fail in predictable ways. Use this checklist before you press send:
- Send only to opted-in contacts, and only to the marketing segment for marketing templates.
- Segment by behavior. Recent buyers, cart abandoners, waitlist members and lapsed customers each need a different message, or no message at all.
- Exclude people who just bought from further promotions in the same sale.
- Add a “Stop promotions” button and act on it immediately. Treat replies such as STOP or “unsubscribe” the same way.
- Make the first line useful. The preview decides whether someone reads or blocks.
- Avoid repeated sends within a few days to the same person.
- Warm up early. A new template sent to 50,000 people on launch morning is the most likely one to be paced or paused.
- Watch quality ratings during the week and stop a template that turns yellow.
- Staff the inbox. Unanswered replies turn into complaints and blocks.

How to run a Black Friday WhatsApp campaign in MonoChat
MonoChat runs the campaign, the replies and the follow-up in one workspace.
Build segments from real customer data. WhatsApp bulk messaging filters opted-in contacts by tags, lifecycle stage, purchase history, previous conversations or CRM attributes. You can build a “bought last Black Friday” segment, a waitlist segment and a “never bought” segment, and send each its own template.
Send approved templates now or on a schedule. Choose an approved template, personalize its variables and send immediately or schedule it for launch time. Campaigns use approved templates, opt-out logic and structured sending rules.
Show the products in the message. Carousel messages send swipeable cards with images and buttons, either fixed for a campaign or loaded live from your systems with products, prices and stock.
Answer every reply automatically or with your team. When customers reply, MonoChat can answer questions with an AI assistant, qualify intent, trigger workflows or hand over to the right agent in the shared team inbox. E-commerce campaign automation adds limited-time offers with auto-expiring coupons, segment rules and chat flows that guide shoppers to checkout.
Take payment in the chat. With your own payment provider connected through payment integrations, a workflow can send a payment link and confirm the order when the provider reports the payment. See how to accept payments in WhatsApp chats.
Ready-made for online shops. The Shop Assistant app sends campaign messages to a chosen group (buyers, repeat customers, top spenders, buyers of a category, cart abandoners) with your products and a code, and its Buy button opens your shop’s own checkout with the items already in the cart.
Bring store shoppers in too. For shops and chains, the Store Assistant app sends campaign messages to a chosen group (loyalty members, tiers, stores or categories bought) with an optional personal coupon, and lets shoppers reserve items for click & collect in the chat.
Measure the outcome. Campaign tracking follows each send from delivery to reply, agent handover, purchase or payment action, so you know which segment and which message paid off.
A simple MonoChat setup for the week:
- Tag contacts by segment and consent in the weeks before the sale.
- Submit the early-access, launch, reminder and order templates.
- Build a workflow that tags anyone who taps “Stop promotions” and removes them from all marketing segments.
- Schedule the early-access send for your most engaged segment.
- On launch day, send by segment and keep agents and the AI assistant on the inbox.
- On Cyber Monday, send the reminder only to people who engaged but did not buy.
