On September 15, 2026 Meta announced business and creator plans under the name Meta One: monthly subscriptions that bundle a verified badge, Meta’s AI agent and extra business tools across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI. If you run customer conversations on WhatsApp, the question is simple: does any of this change what you do?

For a business on the free WhatsApp Business app, possibly. For a business on the WhatsApp Business API with a team inbox, much less. This guide sets out what Meta published, what it left open, and how to decide, with the sources at the end.

What Meta One is

Meta One is a subscription bundle. Reporting on the announcement (TechCrunch, September 15, 2026) lists four business tiers:

PlanStarting priceWhat Meta lists
Essential$14.99 a monthTools to manage your business presence, expanded access to Meta Business Agent for customer replies, impersonation detection, a verified badge and a verified channel on the WhatsApp Business app
Advanced$49.99 a monthStory scheduling up to 30 days ahead, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics, deeper audience insights, team member account access, more linked devices, more business broadcast credits, more Meta Business Agent responses
Expert$149 a monthThe highest level of feature access and Meta Business Agent capacity
Max$499 a monthAlso the highest level of feature access and Meta Business Agent capacity

Meta says that benefits, pricing and availability may vary by region, app and account. Expert and Max are described in the same words in the coverage, so the announcement does not say what the difference between them buys. Meta also named consumer plans, such as WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 a month, which are separate from the business tiers.

What Meta One means on WhatsApp

Meta’s WhatsApp Business page describes the subscription from the point of view of the WhatsApp Business app. You start it in the app under Settings, Subscriptions, Meta One. For the app it lists:

  • Meta Business Agent, which answers customers day and night while your agent is active
  • a verified badge and verified channels, for eligible businesses
  • account protection and impersonation protection, for eligible verified businesses
  • a custom web URL
  • extras from WhatsApp Plus on bundle plans, such as more pinned chats, a custom app icon and themes

Meta adds that eligibility restrictions and auto-renewal terms apply, and that you can cancel anytime. The page gives no prices and does not say whether Meta One applies to the WhatsApp Business Platform, the API that software platforms use. That gap matters, and it is the reason for the next section.

Does Meta One matter if you use the WhatsApp Business API?

The WhatsApp perks that Meta publishes for Meta One are built around the app. In our reading, a business that already works through the API has three separate ways to get what the plans offer, and none needs Meta One:

  • The badge. On the API, the route to a verified badge is the Official Business Account request in WhatsApp Manager, not a subscription. Meta Verified is for the app. We compare both in WhatsApp blue tick: Meta Verified or Official Business Account.
  • AI replies. Meta Business Agent is one option. On the API you can also run your own AI agent on your own knowledge, with your own handoff rules. We compare the two in Meta Business AI vs an AI agent platform.
  • Team access, analytics and broadcasts. Shared inboxes with roles, assignment, reporting and template campaigns are what a messaging platform does. They are not in Meta One’s WhatsApp list, and on the API, campaigns are approved templates billed by Meta per message, not credits.

Meta One does not replace message billing either. Messages sent on the WhatsApp Business Platform are still charged per message by category and country, as set out in WhatsApp Business API pricing.

Check one thing before you decide: how your number is connected. A number that is only in the app, only on the API or on both through WhatsApp Coexistence can sit on a different verification and subscription route. Our app vs API guide explains the difference.

How to decide in five minutes

  1. Where do your conversations live? If one person answers on a phone with the Business app, Meta One’s Essential tier may be worth testing. If a team answers in a shared inbox, read on.
  2. How many people answer? More than two or three agents on WhatsApp is the point where a shared inbox saves more than a badge.
  3. Do you already pay for Meta Verified? Check what Essential adds before you stack a second subscription.
  4. Do you need AI beyond simple questions? If your agent must read order data, book appointments or hand over to a human with context, you need rules you control.
  5. Write down the real monthly cost. Add the subscription, the per-message fees from Meta and your platform plan, and compare it with what you pay today.

What this means in MonoChat

MonoChat is an official Meta Business Partner. You connect your own WhatsApp number to Meta’s Cloud API, Meta bills you directly for messages and MonoChat adds no markup. Your team answers WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram and web chat from one unified team inbox, and an AI assistant can reply with your own knowledge and hand a chat to a person when needed. If you want to keep the Business app on the phone while the team works in MonoChat, see WhatsApp Coexistence. The Basic plan is free and Growth is $120 a month; see pricing, or start at app.monochat.ai.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Meta One for business?

Meta One is Meta's subscription bundle across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI. Meta announced business and creator plans on September 15, 2026. The business tiers are Essential from $14.99 a month, Advanced from $49.99, Expert from $149 and Max from $499, and benefits, prices and availability may vary by region, app and account.

Does Meta One apply to the WhatsApp Business API?

Meta's WhatsApp Business page describes Meta One as a subscription you start in the WhatsApp Business app, under Settings, Subscriptions, Meta One, and does not say it applies to the WhatsApp Business Platform. The WhatsApp perks Meta lists for the plans are a verified badge and channel on the WhatsApp Business app. API numbers use the Official Business Account route for the badge instead.

Is Meta One the same as Meta Verified?

Not exactly. Meta Verified is the earlier subscription for a verified badge and impersonation protection. The Essential plan lists a verified badge and impersonation detection too, so if you already pay for Meta Verified, check what overlaps before you add a plan.

Does Meta One replace paying Meta for WhatsApp messages?

No. Meta One is a subscription for tools and Meta Business Agent access. Messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform are still billed per message by category and country. See our pricing guide for the current rates.

Do I need Meta One to use an AI agent on WhatsApp?

No. Meta Business Agent is Meta's own AI for businesses, and Meta One tiers include more of its responses. You can also run an AI agent on the WhatsApp Business API through a platform such as MonoChat, with your own knowledge base and your own rules for handing a chat to a person.

What does the Advanced plan add over Essential?

Meta lists scheduling stories up to 30 days ahead, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics, deeper audience insights, team member account access, more linked devices, more business broadcast credits and more Meta Business Agent responses.
